The Netherlands -  Han Voerman

My name is Han Voerman and I breed pigeons since I was 12 years old. First racing pigeons in which I was very successful. In 1999 I was 9th over all the Netherlands in the long distance championship. 6 weds from Barcelona, Dax, Marseille, Perpignan, Bordeaux and Tarbes. Average distance 1000 km.

In 2000 I started breeding fancy pigeons and my first breed was English Barbs. It was and is very difficult to find and breed good English barbs ,but after a few years the quality has increased satisfatory. 5 years ago I started with some crossing of Magpies with German magpies and French Bagdads. Kevin Keeler and some friends arranged some Magpies for me from the UK and so I started breeding.

I also crossed some Maltese with my birds and at the moment I have 6 pairs of birds from which none is below 14 inches 35 cm. Nobody describes the size of Magpies ,but I think they have to show a combination of elegance and power. I hope that in some years my Magpies will be like the standard in Holland which is the same as in the UK.

I would like to keep in contact with the English breeders and maybe visit your show. I hope that together we can keep the Magpie alive as the queen of pigeons and that we all can cooperate to achieve that goal.

3 years ago I decided to start the fancypigeon judge course. Every year I will do an examen for 10 breeds. At the moment I judge English pouters, Oriental frills, Magpies, Brunner pouters, Barbs ,French Bagdads, Maltese, German show homers, Carriers, Scandaroons. In April there will be the next examen.

I also breed Carriers which is another pure English breed.
